Margaret (Margo) M. Michalak Principal I am proud to be the principal at Summerfield Elementary and to work with such a dedicated staff, students, and parents. I was appointed principal in mid-April 2002, having worked in all grades in various Hillsborough County
elementary schools for the past 24 years: Dover, Burney-Simmons, Brooker, and McDonald Elementary Schools. Prior to that, I was born and raised in Montgomery County, Maryland and received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Maryland. I taught 3rd and 4th grade in Rockville, Maryland prior to moving to Florida in 1973. Soon after moving to Florida, I earned my Master of Arts Degree at the University of South Florida and my Educational Leadership certification from NOVA University. I have worked in elementary school administration for fifteen years. My biggest satisfaction comes from seeing students and adults meet their academic and personal goals.

Derrick N. McLaughlin Assistant Principal I am proud to be a "Summerfield Indian" and honored to be your
Assistant Principal. I was appointed Assistant Principal for Elementary Instruction in mid-March 2007. I look forward to working with the Summerfield community again this year, and for many years to come. I take great pride in setting high expectations for the achievement of excellence in all areas of academics for all students, and I know that together we can achieve success for the children of Summerfield.
I grew up in "the smallest state with the longest name"...Rhode Island. I decided to head south where I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from The University of Tampa, and my Master's of Education in Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of South Florida. I have had the oppotunity to work in a variety schools; including: Anderson Elementary, Mintz Elementary, Tomlin Middle School, and Bryan Elementary in Plant City. I have also taught several grade levels in both elementary and middle school settings. I currently live in Lithia with my wife Lauren and daughter Emerson. |
